Dear fellow Reddheads:
Hidden in wallet 1.3.1.0 is a feature called bootstrap. It allows a new Reddcoin client (not synced) to rapidly import the blockchain from a local file instead of slowly downloading it from peers on Internet.
On my laptop it reduces the import time from 4.5 hours to 1.5 hours. You just need to follow the steps below:
- Download bootstrap.dat.xz from an official source. It’s ~240M in size compared to ~560M of the blockchain.
- Extract it:
- Linux: xz -d bootstrap.dat.xz
- Mac: You can obtain xz from MacPorts or http://macpkg.sourceforge.net/
- Windows: install 7Zip
- Copy bootstrap.dat to Reddcoin home directory:
- Linux: ~/.reddcoin
- Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Reddcoin
- Windows: %APPDATA%/Roaming/Reddcoin OR %APPDATA%/Local/Reddcoin OR %APPDATA%/Reddcoin
- Start wallet which will automatically import blockchain from bootstrap.dat
- After import is finished, bootstrap.dat will be renamed to bootstrap.dat.old which can be deleted to save disk space.
